Nicolette
Nicolette grew up in Concord, CA, as a second-generation Filipino American in a low-income household. When their family moved to Irvine, they initially struggled with the academic rigor but took initiative at community college, excelling in their studies and founding a game development club to support nontraditional students. They later transferred to UCLA, where they are now a fourth-year English major with a minor in Digital Humanities. As part of the departmental honors program, Nicolette collaborates with faculty to explore diverse experiences in digital media, focusing on accessibility and representation.
Nicolette’s passion for supporting neurodiverse and disabled individuals is both personal and professional. Growing up with siblings diagnosed with autism and OCD, they witnessed the challenges their family faced in achieving independence and navigating social situations. Nicolette has helped their siblings build confidence in new experiences and has applied this knowledge while adapting learning programs for children with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) at Girls Make Games. Through therapy and self-advocacy, they have also gained valuable insights into managing their own anxiety disorder, which they bring to their work at Level Up.
As a Direct Support Professional, Nicolette helps adults with developmental disabilities develop life skills and gain confidence in their independence. They believe everyone deserves the right tools and support to thrive. Nicolette is especially passionate about creating inclusive environments that empower individuals to explore their interests and achieve their goals.
Outside of work, Nicolette enjoys creating 3D art, writing poetry, and exploring fashion. They also love spending time with their cat, Temmie, an Emotional Support Animal for both themselves and Level Up participants.
